Aizawl, Mar 7 (UNI) Mizoram governor Amalok Rattan Kohli today reiterated that sustained peace in the state was possible because of efficient work of the various law enforcement agencies here.

In his inaugural address at the budget session of the assembly, he said ''Mizoram continues to be one of the most peaceful states in the country. It was been possible due to the concerted efforts of the state's law enforcement agencies, the Central Para-Military forces and the awareness campaigns by religious institutions''.

Speaking at the seventh session of the fifth legislative assembly here, he said, that the law and order situation during the last one year has been largely peaceful and under control barring a few insurgency related problems in the western belt of the state.

Mr Kohli pointed out that the number of crimes registered last year has considerably decreased by about 32 per cent as compared to the previous year.

''During the year, several sophisticated weapons and ammunition smuggled into the state from across our border have been recovered and the culprits brought to book,'' he said adding ''there are 146 villages in Mizoram where there had been no crime since last five years''.

Mr Kohli said, ''In retrospect, it is clear that, during a short span of time, Mizoram and its people have achieved a lot in the areas of health, agriculture, horticulture, industries, social welfare, education and sports''.
