Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, Mar 7 (UNI) Japanese students have given a new lease of life to the victims of the December 2004 tsunami by lending a helping hand in the form of physical labour, giving shape to 125 houses, costing Rs two lakh each in Nagore of Nagapattinam district.

Nagapattinam bore the brunt of the disaster that swept away nearly 7,000 people and destroyed property worth several crore. The Mata Amriyanandmayee math took up construction of pucca houses in Nagore for the tsunami affected apart from providing temporary shelters and food for the victims in the district.

Its efforts received a boost with the Japanese students, all disciples of the math, contributing physical efforts for building the houses.

The students met personal expenses from their own pockets.
