Chapchar Kut to be celebrated on March 9 in Mizoram

Aizawl, Mar 07 (UNI) The Mizoram government today said the state's most popular festival ''Chapchar Kut'' would be celebrated here on March 9 and 10.

Addressing the mediapersons here, the organising committee chaired by chief secretary Haukhum Hauzel said all preparations for the two-day festival were by and large complete and the committee hopes of mass participation by the public.

''On the first day, competition in traditional games and music will be held and on March 10 there will be a traditional top spinning fight,'' Hauzel said.

To make the festival a success, eight government departments and six NGOs are involved in the planning.

Exhibitions will be organised by the Industries department's handloom and handicraft wing and Khadi&Village Industries, he said adding apart from this, a photo exhibition and a flower show will also be organised, he added.

According to the committee programme plans, various cultural and official delegates were expected from Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya.

The cultural troupe from Himachal Pradesh will stage a performance on March 9.

Chief minister Zoramthanga will be the ''Father of the Festival''.
