AP project, Godhra issues force RS adjournment twice

New Delhi, Mar 7: The Rajya Sabha was today adjourned twice after members created an uproar in the House over an alleged scam in the Sripadasagar irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh, and over the U C Banerjee report on Godhra train fire.

As soon as the House assembled for the day at 1100 hrs, TDP members were up on their feet vociferously raising the issue of the scam and yesterday's suspension of 62 Andhra Pradesh legislators from the Assembly for stalling proceedings while asking the state government to table files in connection with the award of contracts.

Demanding a CBI probe into the scam, the TDP members trooped into the well of the House.

In the meantime, members from the treasury benches started demanding the tabling of the Justice U C Banerjee report in the House, which was countered by BJP Members raising slogans like 'Narendra Modi Zindabad'.

The resulting din forced the Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat to adjourn the House for 15 minutes till 1130 hrs.

When the House reassembled, uproarious scenes were witnessed again over the two issues. After Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan saw his repeated appeal failing to calm the members down, he announced adjournment of the House till 1200 hrs.
