President's rule should be imposed in UP: Advani
New Delhi, Mar 07: Dubbing the current law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh as worse than was in Bihar under the Lalu-Rabri regime, Leader of Opposition in Parliament L K Advani today (Mar 07, 2006) demanded imposition of President's rule in the state.
Addressing the BJP Parliamentary Party Mr Advani said if the Centre failed to intervene immediately, the situation would go 'out of control'. The law and order situation had taken a turn for the worse during the elections to local bodies in the state, he alleged.
He exhorted the MPs to express their anguish about the state of law and order in Uttar Pradesh in and outside Parliament and mould public opinion to force the government to bring it under Central rule.
Talking to newspersons after the meeting, BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said the MPs strongly condemned the 'unparliamentary acts' of the ruling Congress party which had stalled the proceedings in the Lok Sabha on the pretext of discussing the U C Banerjee Committee report on the Godhra train fire.
''This is a shameful action intended to appease Muslim vote bank and will not bring any credit to anyone,'' he said.
The party also decided to observe March 20 to 26 as the anti-price rise week throughout the nation to educate the people about the unprecedented rise in prices which were making essential commodities out of the reach of the common man, he said.
