VSP posts higher sales

Visakhapatnam, Mar 6 (UNI) Despite sluggish market condtions, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) has posted a cummulative sales turnover of Rs 7,281 crore for the 11-month period ending February 2006.

This represents five per cent growth over sales in the corresponding period last year when it achieved Rs 6,907 crore.

This included domestic sales of Rs 6,882 crore and exports of Rs 399 crore, a company release said here today.

Strategic initiatives helped the company achieve the highest turnover of Rs 862 in February, a growth of 18 per cent over corresponding month's figures of Rs 728 crore.

The cumulative production from April 2005 to Febuary 2006 touched a high of 3.77 million tonne (MT) of hot metal, 3.28 MT in liquid steel and 2.91 MT in saleable steel, representing a growth of six,two and two per cent respectively over corresponding period last year.

Labour productivity remained the highest with the plant achieving 317 tonne per manyear last month, it added.
