UP government might seek legal opnion on Jaya issue

Lucknow, Mar 6 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today said it will seek legal opinion on the Election Commission's decision to have Presidential reference on disqualification of Samajwadi Party Member of Rajya Sabha Jaya Bachchan.

'' I have come to know about it and the government might seek legal opinion on the issue,'' Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters here.

The EC in New Delhi had sent for the Presidentail reference stating Ms Bachchan, RS member from UP is also holding the post of Chairperson, UP Film Development Council seeking her disqualification as the RS member.

The same issue had been raised in June, 2004 when Ms Bachchan was contesting the RS poll and she had tendered her resignation from UP Film Development Council. But after she was elected as a member to the Upper House, she was given the same post again. UNI SB/MB AK MSJ RN1554
