U.S. tech stocks advance as investors welcome deal

NEW YORK, Mar 6 (Reuters) U.S. technology stocks rose on Monday after AT&T Inc.'s announcement of a billion purchase of BellSouth Corp. boosted investor optimism about future growth.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 5.75 points, or 0.05 per cent, at 11,015.84. The Standard&Poor's 500 Index was up 0.02 point at 1,287.25. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 2.63 points, or 0.11 per cent, at 2,305.23.
