Truck union members clash at Bilaspur : CM

Shimla, Mar 6 (UNI) A man was killed and several people, including policemen seriously, injured after members of two rival truck unions clashed with each other at Golthai in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said.

Making a statement in the state assembly over the incident, he said a person, identified as Jarnail Singh, was killed, while Kot Police Station incharge Puran Singh and ASI Thakur Dass were seriously injured in the yesterday's incident.

Mr Singh said the trouble started over the opening of an office by the Bilaspur Truck Cooperative Society (BTCS) at Golthai, which was resisted by the members of the Nangal Truck Union (NTU), who already had had an office there.

Golthai is a fast emerging industrial area of the district and is situated close to the Punjab border.

He said the members of the rival truck unions clashed with each other over the issue, injuring several people.

Over 1,000 people entered the state from the Nangal side and clashed with the members of the BTCS members, who were demanding the shifting of the NTU office from Golthai, he said.
