Three arrested in robbery case

Mumbai, Mar 6 (UNI) Police have arrested three people in connection with the robbery of Rs 18 lakh from Khiyaram Bhavan in Wadala here on February 24.

The three were arrested from the Kurla railway terminus here yesterday as they were attempting to flee to their native town in Uttar Pradesh, police said.

They have been identified as Rajesh Chauhan alias Girdhari Mataprasad Gautam, Nanku Chhotalal Gautam and Raj alias Rajkumar Arjun Nisad -- all hailing from Gonda in Uttar Pradesh.

Deputy Commissioner of police Ankush Shinde, while informing reporters about the arrest, said a sum of Rs 17.43 lakh had been recovered from them.

Khiyaram Bhavan security guard Ganpat Krishna Gaokar had provided vital leads to the police during his interrogation following which the three were arrested.

They were produced before a local court here today which remanded them in police custody till March 18.
