Six hit by train while boarding, three killed

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) Three people were killed and three others were injured after being hit by the 2562 New Delhi-Darbhanga Swantarta Sainani Express last night.

Railway sources said that at around 2245 hours, while the 2562 New Delhi-Darbhanga Swantarta Sainani Express was being berthed on Platform No. 5 of the New Delhi Railway station, six passengers intending to board the train fell on the track, and were hit by the train.

While three of them were killed, three were injured, the sources said. One of the deceased, Tilak Mukhia, hailed from Darbhanga and another, Sudhir Jha, was a resident of Muzaffarpur.

An ex-gratia of Rs 15000 has been given to the relatives of Sudhir Jha, one of the deceased. The railways will also bear all expenses of their travel to Muzaffarpur, the sources said Senior Railway Officers along with a medical team rushed to the spot following the incident.

The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital.

A departmental inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

Of the injured, one, Amit Mishra, has been discharged from the hospital after medical treatment while another, Shashi Kant has been shifted to the Northern Railway Central Hospital from the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. An ex-gratia of Rs 5000 was given to the two of them.

The third injured, Anant Kumar Paswan, is undergoing treatment at the Lady Hardinge Hospital.

Sources said the Northern Railways will bear all the medical expenses of the victims.
