SI killed in encounter

Muzaffarnagar, Mar 6 (UNI) A sub-inspector of Uttar Pradesh Police was today killed in an encounter with criminals in the Khatauli area of the district.

Principal secretary home Alok Sinha told newspersons at Lucknow this evening, SI Uday Pratap Singh, accompanied by two other policemen had engaged the criminals in an encounter near Nawla turn.

Mr Singh sustained grievous wounds and succumbed on way to hospital.

The miscreants managed to escape.

A combing operation had been launched.
