Rally against rape on March nine

Imphal, Mar 6 (UNI) A rally to protest the alleged mass rape at Churachandpur district by suspected militants will be carried out on March 9 at churachandpur district.

The mothers of Churachandpur supported by Zomi Mothers Association (ZMA), Hmar Women Association (HWA), Kuki Women Union (KWU) and Mizo People's Convention Women Wing will stage the rally.

The Kuki Students' Organisation has alleged that on January 16 last large numbers of girls were raped by militants at Churachandpur.

Other organisations had also condemned the incident and the stoic silence of womens' bodies over the issue. The chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC), Justice (retd) Shishak said the chief secretary, Manipur, has been asked to look into the matter and a team of human rights activists and students' leaders have gone to the villages to conduct an inquiry.
