Hyderabad, Mar 6 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Government Whip S Udaya Bhanu today said the government should take steps to provide employment to the poor, including migrants facing socio-economic problems in the state.

Initiating the debate on National Rural Employment Gurantee Programme (NREGP) in the Assembly, Mr Bhanu said the poor migrants, especially those from Rayalaseema and Telangana regions, were facing more problems now.

The government should not only provide employment to all those who applied for jobs under NREGP but also take steps to provide equal wages to both the men and women beneficiaries.

Participating in the discussion, Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) MLA Nagesh suggested the inclusion of weaver community in the scheme by providing them occupational emoployment.

About five to ten per cent of them were unemployed and living in poverty since several years.

Alleging TRS President and Union Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and the party Ministers who quit the State Cabinet had failed to provide any assistance to the poor in Telangana, Party MLA Sara Rani hoped the NREGP would uplift the living standards of the poor in the region.
