Opposition force adjournment of House on irrigation scam
Hyderabad, Mar 6 (UNI) Opposition parties today forced the adjournment of Andhra Pradesh Assembly demanding debate on the issues they sought to raise their adjournment motions including the one by the Communists on Sri Pada Sagar project cost hike.
Soon after the house met for the day, the Speaker K R Suresh Reddy announced that the adjournment motions given notice of by the TRS on supply of power for nine hours to farmers and the CPI and CPI(M) on the alleged collusion of contractors and officials in hiking the Sri Pada Sagar Project estimates by Rs 400 crore, the BJP on compensation for farmers, who lost crop due to hailstorms in five districts and the Janata Party on starting of colleges in Metpally constituency were disallowed.
The Communists, the TRS and the BJP stalled the proceedings, demanding debate on issues they sought to raise.
The Speaker told the TRS flood leader Dr G Vijayarama Rao that he could raise the issue of electricity as energy demands slated to be debated in the House later today. He told the member to raise their issues under a different form.
Mr Reddy told the Communists that he had already sought a clarification from the Government expressed its willingness to give a reply. ''Kindly wait for a few days for the Governments response, we can discuss the matter latter, I will call a meeting of floor leaders and talk about it'', he told the Communist members.
He repeatedly urged the Opposition members to allow the question hour to go on as all members were expressing concern over loss of the question hour almost every day. He even offered to have a discussion to sort out that angle during the tea break. However, the opposition stalled the proceedings, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House.
