New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) The Congress High Command is yet to take a decision on Uttaranchal Chief Minister N D Tiwari's request to relieve him of his post in view of his old age.

''The status quo continues on the matter,'' party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said when asked whether the High Command would concede his request.

There was no change in the position, Mr Singhvi told reporters here. It was the Congress leadership which would take a decision on his request, he added.

''Mr Tiwari is a senior leader of the party. He has a right to express his views,'' Mr Singhvi said.

Mr Singh termed as ''irresponsible allegation'' when asked about the Samjawadi Party's charge that the Election Commission's move to disqualify Mrs Jaya Bachchan from the Rajya Sabha membership on the ground of holding office of profit while being an MP has been initiated at the instance of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

'' The Election Commission is an independent and impartial constitutional body,'' he said, adding it was in response to a Presidential reference.
