Newspaper banned, editor arrested in Nepal

Kathmandu, Mar 6 (UNI) Authorities have banned the publication and distribution of the daily Sandhyakalin'', and arrested its editor Jay Prakash Gupta on charges of publishing news stories against the state.

''Gupta will be kept in police custody for ten days for investigations, under a case offence committed against the state,'' the media quoted police official as saying.

Federation of Nepalese journalists has condemned such acts of atrocities perpetrated on the journalists and media and have urged for Gupta's immediate and unconditional release.
