Mayawati sents leagl notice to News Channel

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj party supremo Mayawati today threatened to sue a TV channel for telecasting a news story 'Maya's Maya' which she described as highly defamatory to her as person and as a party leader.

In a legal notice sent to CNN IBN News channel editor Rajdeep Sardesai through her counsel Sunil Kumar Chaudhary, Ms Mayawati said the news story telecast and the one put by the channel on its website, 'UP's Dalit Queen turns Crorepati' contained ''distorted, manipulated and fabricated information and clippings.

The notice calls upon the CNN IBN to pay Rs 10 crore as damages to Ms Mayawati, failing which, it said, she would initiate legal proceedings against the channel.

It also said that the channel by broadcasting stories about Ms Mayawati allegedly amassing property worth crores of rupees has tried to prejudice the judicial proceedings against her client in income tax cases pending before the Supreme Court.
