Maoists' electronic expert held in AP

Medak, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 6 (UNI) A special police team today arrested A Maoist electronics expert N Raji Reddy and seized 17 handheld sets, four FM and six SW transceivers besides other electronic components from his possession.

Nizamabad Range Deputy-Inspector General of Police Anjani Kumar told reporters here that Raji Reddy came into contact with Peoples War (the erstwhile nomenclature of CPI (Maoists)) in 2000 when there was tension between sugarcane farmers and a private mill in Kamareddy over hike in cane prices.

The PW instigated farmers to organise dharnas and meetings. Raji Reddy took up repair work on electronic and communication equipment belonging to the ultras.

Reddy played a vital role in strapping explosives to vans for attacking police in November 2001, but the attempt failed. He was given financial support to purchase latest gadgets, spare parts and components for developing communication network of the Maoists.

He extensively toured Medak, Nizambad, Karimnagar, Warangal districts in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bastar in Maharasthra for developing telecommunication and remote sensing system for the Maoists.

The police also came to know that Raji Reddy inspected a mobile radio transmission unit set up by Maoists in Chhattisgarh area He was arrested near Akkannapet Railway Station in the district.
