Kyocera Wireless India to hold Design Competition

Bangalore, Mar 6 (UNI) Kyocera Wireless India, the Indian subsidiary of leading global CDMA wireless phone maker, today announced its maiden design competition for designing an ideal mobile phone for the Indian market.

With over six cash prizes, totalling to Rs six lakh, up for grabs the competition was open for up-and-coming designers in institutions such as Indian Institutes of Technology in Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, and Mumbai, National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and Indian Institute of Science and Sristhi School of Design Bangalore, besides IDDC, according to a Kyocera release here today.

Registration to participate in the competition was being done online at www.kyoceradesign.com and the deadline was 2359 hrs on March 12.

Mr Michael Foley, head of design at Titan Industries, India, and Mr Frank Tyneski, Senior Director of Industrial Design at Kyocera Wireless, would be among the group of renowned experts invited to judge the competition.

''Kyocera Wireless is dedicated to connecting with emerging talents in the industrial design and human factors fields,'' Mr Tyneski said and added ''The competition represents an excellent opportunity for Indian students to display their creative genius in designing innovative and easy-to-use products while being judged by a leading global manufacturer.'' Kyocera placed a strong emphasis on design and innovation and recently opened the Kyocera Design Centre in the city. Kyocera had steadily increased its presence in India over the last few years, establishing Kyocera Wireless (India) Pvt. Ltd. in 2003 and adding a Hardware Engineering and Design Services Lab in 2004.
