K'taka honours 6 best institutions, 11 individuals

Bangalore, Mar 6 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has conferred the Kittur Rani Chennamma Awards for 2004-05 on six best women institutions and 11 individuals for outstanding services in the field of women welfare, arts, sports and literature.

An official release here today said the institutions that have bagged the awards were Athani Mahili Co-operative Credit Society Atahni, Parivarthana Grameena Abhivrudhi Samsthe, Shiralakoppa, Soundarya Grameena and Pattanabhivrudhi Sangha Chintamani, Vidyanikethana, Jaraganahalli Bangalore, Sandyarani Mahila Samaja Kenchatahalli Doddagenigere Hassan and Maithreyi Mahila Sangha Srinvasanagar, Bangalore.

The institutions would get a cash price of Rs 25,000 each and a citation.

Those selected for the individual awards were Anu Manohara Kalasa (Karwar district), Dr Radha Kulkarni (Koppal district) Kalavathi Matapathi (Bijapur district), Yashodha V Gujjara (Bijapur district), Vasanthi R Hunsimaradha (Gadag district), Channamma K Bovuge (Bidar district), Lakshmi Shantha Gowda Desai (Bijapur district) and J B Sumangalamma (Bellary district).

While Ms Yellavva Basappa Madar (Belgaum district) won the award for excelling in the field of arts, Ms Mamthar Begum (Udupi district) for Literature and Ms H P Uma (Bangalore) for Sports.

The awardees would get a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a citation.

Five best Self Help Groups (SHGs) among one lakh SHGs have also been conferred the Stree Shakthi Awards for its commendable achievements and services in rural areas. The awardees were Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Stree shakthi Self Help Group from Kolar district (Rs 50,000 and a citation), Sri Mahalakshmi Stree Shakthi from Tumkur district (Rs 15,000 and a citation), Sridevi Stree Shakthi from Chikmagalur district (Rs 15000 and a citation), Sri Anupama Stree Shakthi from Mysore district and Sri Renukambeswari Stree Shakthi from Bijapur district (Rs 10,000 and a citation each).
