Justice Banerjee has 'disgraced' judiciary: BJP
New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) The BJP today flayed Justice U C Banerjee for 'disgracing' the Judiciary and jeopardise the trials pending before the Gujarat High Court and Justice Nanavati Commission by coverting the interim report on Godhra as final report.
BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said it was unfortunate that Justice Banerjee had become a tool in the hands of the political parties, bent upon releasing the accused from the Godhra killings for the sake of playing 'vote bank' politics ahead of elections in five states. "They somehow want to get the accused released and the Railway Departmental probe committee has played into their hands,'' he alleged.
He said the case was probed by the Justice Nanavati Commission and the Gujarat High Court, which was monitored by the Supreme Court. To attempt to derail the probe by a Railway departmental probe is highly objectionable, he said.
He said the interim report was submitted before the Assembly elections in Bihar in February and the results in the state were all now known. The results in Gujarat Local Bodies had shown that even Muslim voters did not believe the non-BJP parties, he added.
He said it was unfortunate that ruling party MPs themselves were posing hurdles to smooth functioning of the Lok Sabha by rushing into the well of the House.
