Haryana asks for compensation for Mustard crop loss

Chandigarh, Mar 6 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said that although the damage caused to mustard crops due to frost did not fall under the ambit of natural calamities yet the state government has written to the Centre to compensate the farmers for the loss.

The Chief Minister, talking to mediapersons in Rewari this evening, said the date to begin procurement of mustard by government agencies would be announced shortly. He assured the farmers that mustard would be procured on a priority basis.

He said that those between the age of 18 and 60 years would be covered under an insurance scheme thus benefiting about one crore persons in the state. He said that an Arogya Kosh has been set up with an investment of Rs one crore to provide better medicare service to the poor.

Mr Hooda made it clear that the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) would not be privatised but the government would seek the help of private companies to prepare such skilled persons who could get employment easily.
