Harness water resources to generate power: Apang
Itanagar, Mar 6 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang has called for harnessing excess water resources of the state to generate more power.
The chief minister was addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the Nuranang hydel power house at Jang under Arunachal's Tawang district yesterday,official sources said here today.
Exhorting the power department for proper utilization of power, Mr Apang observed that Tawang could become power house of western Arunachal by harnessing excess water resources.
Mr Apang said the district could be a model one with its vast tourism potential and border trade prospect. But to realise the goal of development the people should cooperate with government and work hard to take up more projects for economic self-reliant.
On the development front, Mr Apang said, ''We are thinking of making a 30 km tunnel from Jung to Sangte, which will not only reduce the distance and hardship in crossing the Sela Pass, but also help in economic development of the district, which in turn would benefit the state also.'' He, however, assured all help for development projects in the district, especially on road connectivity.
