Govt announces Rs 82 cr package for salt workers
Ahmedabad, Mar 6 (UNI) The Gujarat government today announced a Rs 82 crore package for salt workers.
Of this, Rs 28.8 crore has been earmarked for Surendranagar district for building bridges and reconstructing the state highway as also for linking villages, an official statement said.
Health centres for the salt workers will be built in Bhavnagar and Patan and Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned for the purpose.
Another Rs 39 lakhs will be spent in Rapar taluka of Kutch for road repairs and Rs 97 lakhs for building approach roads in other parts of the district. Amreli district will get Rs 24 lakhs for providing drinking water and building a school room for the workers' children. Laying of HDPI pipelines in place of PVC lines will be done at a cost of Rs 250 lakh.
Gum boots designed by the National Institute of Design will be distributed free of cost to 25,000 salt workers, the statement added.
