EC averts Jaya Bhachan issue

Guwahati, Mar 06 (UNI) The Eection Commission today informed that the report of the case of Jaya Bachhan disqualification issue had been sent to President A P J Abdul Kalam.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) B B Tandon was here on a two-day poll review meet, where he was asked about the Jaya Bachhan issue.

" We have got a Presidential reference in the matter. We have done the investigation and sent the report, " said Mr Tandon refusing steadfastly to elaborate.

There was a complaint to the President in last year, seeking disqualification of Ms Jaya Bachhan from the membership of the Rajya Sabha as she was holding the office of profit by virtue of being the Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Corporation.

The President had referred the matter to the Election Commisison(EC).
