Crop insurance payment within 6 months
Bhopal, Mar 6 (UNI) The government today informed the Madhya Pradesh Assembly that payment of insurance amount for Kharif crop damage will be made within six months.
Agriculture Minister Choudhary Chandrabhan Singh made this announcement during discussion on a call attention notice on the issue raised by Mr Haricharan Tiwari.
He said the process of calculating the insurance claim was in progress as the report of the 2005 kharif crop cutting experiment was to be made available to the insurance companies by January 31, 2006.
Mr Choudhary said commercial and cooperative banks in Rajgarh district received insurance premium of Rs 489.95 lakh from farmers last year.
Mr Tiwari, who raised the issue, said the farmers were anguished over non-payment of insurance money by societies and banks though about 75 percent crop had been damaged due to scanty rains.
The bank officials were unaware of the quantum and conditions for payment of insurance amount, he added.
