Congress wins JMC Mayor's post for the first time
Jammu, Mar 6 (UNI) Congress candidate Chowdhary Man Mohan Singh was today elected the Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) while Dharamveer Jamwal of National Conference wrested the deputy Mayor's seat.
Mr Singh defeated BJP nominee Kavinder Gupta and later, alongwith the Congress corporators, alliance parties and independents, called on Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
The Chief Minister congratulated the newly elected Mayor for winning the post for the first time for Cogress since the constitution of the JMC.
''The newly elected mayor alongwith all the corporators have to work hard for building up khush hal Jammu city,'' he said.
The Chief Minister said the state government has already succeeded in getting 90:10 (centre and state contribution) funding pattern under the National Urban Renewal Mission for the devlopment of cities and towns of the state.
He hoped that JMC under the leadership of Mr Singh will succeed in giving a fillip to the devlopment of the city.
