Bush to offer line-item veto, White House says
WASHINGTON, Mar 6 (Reuters) President George W Bush will announce legislation today requesting a line-item veto -- the power to cancel specific items within spending bills, the White House said.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the proposal was written in a way to head off problems raised by the U S Supreme Court when it rejected as unconstitutional a previous version of the line-item veto in 1998.
