BJP activists burn effigy of Justice U C Banerjee

Porbandar, Mar 6 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers today burnt Justice U C Banerjee in effigy to protest against the report by his committee that the fire in S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra in 2002 was ''accidental''.

Nearly 300 BJP activists assembled at 'Sudama' chowk here and submitted a memorandum to the District Collector at his office.

Justice Banerjee, a retired Supreme Court Judge, had recently ruled that the fire in the coach was accidental and petrol was not poured from outside to set it ablaze.

The incident on February 27, 2002 had sparked communal riots across the state killing hundreds of people.
