AP receives 27 lakh applications for NREGP: minister

Hyderabad, Mar (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Rural Development minister D Srinivas today said the Government has received 27,04,599 applications from the poor during the three day gram sabhas organised to identify the beneficiaries of National Rural Employment Gurantee Programme(NREGP).

Speaking in a debate on NREGP initiated by government whip Udaya Bhanu in the Assembly, the minister said the Government was planning to distribute job cards to the beneficiaries from the first week of March after verifying the applications thoroughly by Panchayat Secretaries.

He said meetings would be organised with the job cardholders for facilitating them to file applications for work from March 10.

Stating that District Resource Persons from each district have been trained to provide general and technical support to the gram Panchayats, Mr Srinivas said the Government was planning to keep work ready by March 20.

The Government was also taking steps to put in place effective vigilance and quality control mechanisms at the district level, he said, adding that social audit would be taken up to make the planning, implementation and evaluation of Rural Employment Gurantee Scheme more participatory, transparent and accountable.
