Tirupati, Mar 5 (UNI) Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International President Ashok Singhal has strongly opposed the interference of the Andhra Pradesh Government in Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala.

Addressing newspersons here last night, he said the VHP was contemplating a massive movement in the state for the liberation of temples from the control of the Government.

Mr Singhal alleged that mutt and temples had been taken over by the Government and their properties were being seized.

He alleged that 40 per cent of the 'hundi' at Tirumala temple was going to the tax department in the state, and the Tirupati Tirumala Devastanam (TTD) funds were not being used to protect the interests of the temples and hindu dharma.

The temple funds should be used for the development of literacy at rural areas, he added.
