Two arrested, 8 detained in police-attack case
Islampur(Siliguri), Mar 5 (UNI) Two people were arrested and eight detained here last night in relation to the attack on a police party at Chakulia last Thursday.
The incident took place at Rampur under Chakulia Police Station in North Dinajpur. Two policemen while patrolling National Highway 31 were attacked by a group of criminals, who shot one dead on the spot. Another was injured and taken to the hospital.
Police suspected a maoist hand in the incident though no concrete proof was found.
Inspector General of Police, North Bengal, Mishanlal Meena told UNI that they are looking for a maoist leader named Bura Kaka who was suspected to be involved in the attack.
The 62-year old Maoist leader was active in Islampur and adjoning area since a year back. Mr Meena also said they had been informed that Bura Kaka had reportedly organised local youths.
