Malaysian Govt to introduce e-visa system from Mar 7

Chennai, Mar 5 (UNI) The Malaysian Government will introduce internet driven e-visa system from March seven, to issue visas within a day, according to Rosli Bin Ismail, Consul General, Malaysian Consulate, here.

Talking to newspersons yesterday he said soon after launching the new system at Malaysia, the external affairs ministry will ask its embassies and consulates to follow the same all over the world.

Mr Ismail said the Malaysian Consulate in Chennai, had issued 76673 tourists visas during 2005. In addition to this, tourists having joint visa of Thailand-Singapore, touching Kuala Lumpur, would be given five days free visa to Malaysia, he added.

At present it would take three days for the issuance of visas through the e-visa system, he said.

Under the new system, the payment could be made through credit cards, and the eligible person could obtain the visa at his residence, he added.
