Govt releases Rs 2.4 crore to rain affected farmers

Guntur, Mar 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Government has released Rs 240 lakh as compensation to horticulture crops, damaged by torrential rains in this district.

A total of 555 mm rainfall was recorded in this district in September and October 2005, against the normal rainfall of 275 mm, which submerged crops, a Government press release said here today.

The heavy rain damanged 21500 hectares paddy and 11300 hectares cotton.

The Government had provided Rs 488 lakh to 39,000 paddy farmers and 20,000 cotton growers, the release added.
