E-City Films to release 'A History of Violence' in Mumbai

Written by: Staff

Mumbai, March 5 (UNI) E-City Films will release the Oscar-nominated Hollywood blockbuster 'A History of Violence' in India on March 10.

Its star cast includes Ed Harris, William Hurt, Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello, Ashton Holmes and Peter Macneil.

The movie, which has been nominated for two Oscars this year for the Best Screenplay (Josh Olson) and Best Performance in a supporting role (William Hurt), has also won Hollywood Legacy's Best Writer of the Year Award, Toronto Film Critics Awards for Best Picture and Best Director, New York Film Critics Circle's Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress Awards and was the runners-up for Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Best Picture and Best Director Awards.

The blockbuster film, which is directed and partly produced by David Cronenberg, has been adapted from the graphic novel of the same name.

David Cronenberg was quoted as saying about the film, '''A History of Violence' is specifically about a western mythology of America, which is also a cinema mythology, of a man standing alone, defending his family with a gun against the other men with guns. And that's very, very American.'' ''And one could say that the Bush administration has adopted that mythology as its foreign policy. You know, we were attacked and so anything we do to defend ourselves is justified. So, to that extent it is a criticism of America now. But at the same time, violence is a universal human fact, and a very complex one,'' he added in the release.

Besides Cronenberg, the film's other producers include Chris Bender and Jake Weiner. It is edited by Ronald Sanders, while its screenplay, cinematography and music are by Josh Olson, Peter Suschitzky and Howard Shore.

Atul Goel, Chief Officer, E-City Films, said: ''The multiplex revolution has paved the way for the English movie market in India, which can be pegged at Rs one billion approximately. We are looking at a 30 per cent growth in this business. It is an excellent business arena to broach upon. With the success of 'Cellular', 'Alexander', 'Million Dollar Baby' and other films, we have high hopes for 'A History of Violence', which has already done well abroad, besides being nominated for this year's Oscars.'' The Indian movie-goer will now get a chance to see 'A History of Violence' and get a slice of the Oscars when it hits the theatres, he added.
