CPI(M) leader shot dead by Maoists

Midnapore, Mar 5 (UNI) A CPI(M) leader of Lalgarh was shot dead by the Maoists last night in Harulia forest, 60 Km from here, under the Jhargram Subdivision.

West Midnapore District Magistrate Dushmant Nariyala said today that Kartik Singh (45), along with six others, were returning from a Self Help Group meeting yesterday.

A group of armed Maoist suddenly took them hostage and Kartik Singh was shot dead, Mr Nariyala added.

While others fled from the spot, one of them got injured in the process, he said.

Police has started combing operations in the area since last night but no one was arrested yet, the District Magistrate said.
