Army XI defeats HASC 1-0

Bangalore, Mar 5 (UNI) Army XI registered its second victory, defeating Hindustan Aeronautics Sports Club 1-0 in the second division ONGC Cup 10th National Football League here today.

The all important goal was scored in the 44th minute when Army striker Samuel brilliantly netted the ball through a header, encashing on a pass by midfielder Nguernilal.

Though the Airmen were in full control of the ball in the second half, it missed a couple of chances to score the equaliser due to lack of coordination. Nigerian striker Kenneth Onu displayed good skill in taking control of the ball, but he failed to net the ball.

Army, which opened with an attacking note, concentrated more on defence in the second half as the Airmen regrouped themselves to play an agressive game.

Army XI, in its earlier encounters, had defeated Vasco Sports Club, Goa, and drawn with Indian Bank, while HASC had opened on a winning note defeating Indian Bank in its first encounter.
