Apang launches NEDFi-sponsored DVWD project

Itanagar, Mar 5 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang has launched the Dirang Valley Watershed Development (DVWD) project, a multi-pronged programme to give a new direction to community development at Dirang under West Kameng district.

Financed by North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi), the Rs 450 project will be implemented in five years, the Chief Minister said yesterday while releasing the action plan.

He said NEDFi had so far sanctioned Rs 43.11 crore for projects in Arunachal, of which Rs 22.14 crore was disbursed as assistance to 88 units resulting in employment for 829 people. An amount Rs 35 lakh was also sanctioned under micro-finance to benefit 219, including 43 per cent women.

Responding to a three-point memorandum pleading for road connectivity and creation of Mon Autonomous Council(MAC), submitted by local MLA and Agriculture Minister Tsering Gyurme, the Chief Minister said that he will pursue the case with the Centre adding that all the villages under Dirang circle will be linked by road.

The Chief Minister also launched the cellular mobile service in the district, sources added.
