Apang launches NEDFi sponsored DVWD project

Itanagar, Mar 05 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang launched the Dirang Valley Watershed Development (DVWD) project, a multi-pronged programme to give new direction to community development at Dirang under West Kameng district.

Speaking about the action plan of the project, the Chief Minister said it would be financed by North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) and implemented in next five years.

The total project cost would be Rs 4.5 crore, including Rs 32 lakh to be utilised for capacity building, official sources said here today.

He said NEDFi should set up branches in districts, urging the Corporation to reduce interest rate, timely sanction of loans, simplification of procedures, help research, development wing to tap agri-horti sectors and medicinal plant resources.

Mr Apong said NEDFi has so far sanctioned Rs 43.11 crore for projects in the state, of which Rs 22.14 crore was disbursed as assistance to 88 units, creating employment opportunities for 829 people.

Responding to a three-point memorandum pleading for road connectivity and creation of Mon Autonomous Council (MAC), submitted by local MLA and Agriculture Minister Tsering Gyurme, Mr Apang said his government was giving top priority to road connectivity.
