Addnl 7.5 lakh acre ayacut by next kharif: YSR

Kosli, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said his government will be releasing water to an additional ayacut of 7.5 lakh acre by the end of July 2006, when the Kharif season starts.

Talking to newspersons after reviewing the progress of 11 major and six minor irrigation projects at this village on the banks of River Godavari where Ali Sagar Lift Irrigation Project work was in progress, Dr Reddy said the government was fulfilling its promise of providing additional irrigational potential.

Stating the 'Jala Yagnam' will change the face of the state, Dr Reddy said his government had executed 17 projects in two years providing irrigation to 7.5 lakh acre.

He had assured the Assembly that water would be be released from the 17 projects by khariff and held review meeting with senior officials to check the situation and remove bottlenecks, if any.

After interacting with the officials, he was confident of fulfilling his promise. Even the review meeting was held with total transparency in the presence of the media.

Dr Reddy said he instructed the officials to boldly express the problems facing them and not to manipulate figures to please him.

However if any official was found to be lax to his duty, stern action would be taken against him.
