Women Commission Bill welcomed

Imphal, Mar 4: Women's organisations of the state have welcomed the Manipur State Commission for Women Bill,2006, which was passed at the Assembly yesterday.

Women organisations of the state had been demanding institution of a Women's Commission in the state.

Social Welfare minister W Leima said the Commission should be instituted under the National Commission for Women Act 1990 and the problems faced by the fair sex would be addressed.

The Commisssion, headed by a chairperson, will have three members and the government has earmarked Rs 8 lakhs which would be increased to Rs 9 lakhs the next year, the minister said.
