Ahmedabad, Mar 4 (UNI) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today held a demonstration in the city to protest the Banerjee Commission report on the Godhra train carnage incident, which said the fire in the Sabarmati Express coach was an accident.

They also shouted slogans against Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and Justice U C Banerjee who comprised the one-man commission, appointed by the UPA government to probe into the cause of fire in the ill-fated S6 coach.

Terming the report an ''eyewash'' and ''politically motivated'', VHP international general secretary Parveen Togadia said it has been timed to appease the Muslims as elections are being held in four states.

''But this move will backfire and Hindus of these states will not vote for the Congress and its allies,'' he told UNI over phone from Tirupati.

''The interim report came out just before the Bihar elections, but Lalu Prasad had to take a beating as Hindus did not vote for him. Everybody knows how the incident had happened. It is unfair to say that it was an accident. It will amount to release of jehadis who with great difficulty had been nabbed. It is total injustice to all the relatives of those passengers killed in the carnage,'' he added.
