Tribal woman branded witch, tortured

Badwani (MP), Mar 4 (UNI) A tribal woman, allegedly branded a witch, was tortured by a man at Balkhad village in this district's Sendhwa tehsil, police said today.

Dhawli Bai (35), who came along with her husband and some other tribal representatives, today lodged a complaint before Sendhwa Sub-divisional Officer (SDO) Amit Singh.

She alleged that Sadaria desired to marry her. On her refusal, he started defaming her in the village by branding her as a witch and even beat her up several times.

The woman claimed she had gone to the police station twice to register a complaint but the police had shrugged off the matter.

On Mr Singh's direction, police registered a case. A police team has been dispatched to nab the accused.
