Surjewala seeks Chautala's arrest
Chandigarh, Mar 4 (UNI) Senior Congress leader Shamsher Singh Surjewala today demanded arrest of former Haryana Chief Minister and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) supremo Om Prakash Chautala against whom the CBI has taken up a case of disproportionate assets.
Mr Surjewala, who headed the Congress committee that prepared the ''chargesheet'' against Chautala which had been referred to the CBI for a probe by the Centre, demanded the accused be arrested so that he might not tamper evidence and influence witnesses.
In a statement faxed to the media, the former Haryana Congress chief also sought confiscation of the passports of Mr Chautala and his associates so that they might not flee the country.
He said their accounts should also be immediately frozen and lockers be sealed.
Alleging that the tentacles of Chautala's ''ill-gotton wealth'' were spread throughout India and other countries as well, Mr Surjewala urged the CBI director to constitute a team of senior officers of the agency to investigate the matter.
