MDMK all set to quit the DMK and join AIADMK
Chennai, Mar 4: Dissatisfied with the DMK's offer of 22 seats, the MDMK is all set to quit the DPA and join the AIADMK for the coming Assembly polls.
MDMK sources told UNI today that MDMK General Secretary, Mr Vaiko will call on AIADMK General Secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence at 1100 hrs today to formalise the alliance.
Mr Vaiko is scheduled to address a press conference at 1500 hrs today.
Mr Vaiko's decision to meet Ms Jayalalithaa comes a day after DMK President M Karunanidhi, whose party is heading the seven-party DPA, virtually issued an ultimatum asking the MDMK to ''take it or leave it'' offer of 22 seats. Mr Karunanidhi had made it clear that the DMK could only offer a maximum of 22 seats as against the MDMK's demand of 25 seats.
Mr Vaiko's decision to meet his ''former'' bete noire Ms Jayalalithaa comes a week after he cleared the air of suspicion stating that his party would continue to stay in the DPA and work for the defeat of the AIADMK in the ensuing polls.
A couple of days back the newly appointed AIADMK Presidium Chairman and former Assembly Speaker K Kalimuthu renewed his appeal to the MDMK leader to come out of the DPA and join the AIADMK.
