Ravi Shankar to receive Gayana Samaja Centenary Award

Mumbai, Mar 4 (UNI) Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna will present the Bangalore Gayana Samaja Centenary Award to Pt. Ravi Shankar at a function to be held in New Delhi tomorrow.

The programme will be followed by a sitar concert by Subhendra Roy, disciple of Pt Ravi Shankar. Sangeet Natak Akademi chairman Ram Niwas Mirdha will be the guest of honour, according to a release here.

The Bangalore Gayana Samaja, established in 1905, is one of the oldest cultural organisations in the country having rendered uninterrupted service for 100 years in the field of music and fine arts.

The Samaja has the unique honour of promoting, preserving and propagating all forms of fine arts including Carnatic and Hindustani classical music, devotional light music, and dance in all its forms.
