Preparations on for local body elections in Pondy

Pondicherry, Mar 04: The state election commission is taking steps to hold local body elections in the union territory at the earliest.

State Election Commissioner R Narayana, in a release here today said the Commission has prepared the ward wise electoral rolls for municipalities and panchayats on the basis of the assembly electoral rolls of 2006.

It is proposed to publish the draft electoral rolls for the benefit of the public in each ward for municipalities and in each village panchayat for for panchayats on March 6.

Applications for inclusion,claims and objections would be received till March 19. The final electoral roll would be published on April 15, he added.
