Police obtain clue in blast case
Kozhikode, Mar 4: A Police team, investigating the powerful twin blasts that rocked the city, today (Mar 4, 2006) achieved a breakthrough obtaining upon information about suspected miscreants involved in the case, a top officer said.
'We have got a definite idea' of the assailants involved in the blasts at the busy Mavoor Road area yesterday after quizzing three people taken into custody yesterday, Assistant Commissioner of Police (District Crime Records Bureau) Xavier, heading the probe team said.
Caricatures of the assailants will be prepared with the contents provided by the three operators of public telephone booths, from where the anonymous callers gave prior information about the explosions to the District Collectorate and a newspaper office, he said.
He said special teams have been sent to the rural areas in the district, neighbouring district of Malppuram and Thalassery in Kanuur to nab the culprits.
Meanwhile, security has been further tightened in the district following minor explosions in Nadapuram and recovery of two country-made bombs near a railway overbridge at Vengali in the district last night.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the district jail, where the accused in the Marad communical violence that claimed nine lives on May 2, 2003, were lodged.
Officiating DIG B Sandhya held a high-level meeting of senior police officials to review the situation.
