Nine bookies remanded to police custody till March 17
Mumbai, Mar 4 (UNI) Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court today remanded nine cricket bookies, who were arrested here last night, till March 17.
All the bookies--Ashwin Saha (33), Sunil Fania (41), Bhairav Sinh (26), Kamlesh Doshi (30), Durlab Patel (53), Mukesh Shah (33), Amar Madan (54), Lakoo Thakur(59) and Pratap Jethani (54)--were produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Y Shisode this afternoon and the Mumbai police sought their custody.
On a tip-off, the police had arrested them from a flat in Shivsakti building, located at Andheri in North West Mumbai, for allegedly accepting bets on India-England match being played at Nagpur and South Africa versus Australia match.
Police also seized Rs 34,100 in cash, three TV sets, two laptops, 16 mobile phones and one printer from their custody.
During interrogation, it was revealed that some of them were arrested earlier in similar offences.
